My Daughter Got a DUI: What is a Bail Bond? How Does it Work?

Question: My daughter was arrested in Alpharetta for DUI. Now I need to post a bail bond. My daughter just recently graduated from Kennesaw State University and she was out celebrating with some of her friends from Alpharetta High School. They spent some time at the Olde Blind Dog in Crabapple, Mazzy's Sports Bar & Late Nite Grill on Alpharetta Highway and they met up with more friends at Taco Mac on Windward Parkway. My daughter was actually the designated driver.

She said she was stopped by an Alpharetta cop because she was speeding. He said she was going over 30 miles per hour over the speed limit. When he pulled her over she told him that she was only drinking light beer and white wine and she did not have nearly as much to drink as the other girls and finally the police officer arrested her and took her to the Alpharetta jail. The strange part is that I didn't think she drank at all. She always said that what she liked most was Mountain Dew or Sprite.

I'm pretty mad at her and I'm going to let her sit in jail a while. But sooner or later I'll pay the bond to bail her out. What exactly is a bail bond? Can you recommend a bail bond company?

Answer: Bail bond companies have a long history in the United States. Like any other large industry, they have a trade organization in Washington, D.C., the American Bail Coalition.

A bail bondsman acts as a surety by pledging money to ensure the appearance in court of a person accused of a crime. It is a financial arrangement that a bail bonding agency will make on behalf of the criminal defendant. If a defendant fails to appear in court, the bail is forfeited. When someone is arrested for DUI they can be released with the payment of bail. A bail bondsman receives a fee for posting bail. The fee a bail bond company can charge is regulated by state law. The bail bonding agency receives the bond amount back when the DUI is eventually resolved in court.

Cagle Bail Bonding in Alpharetta has a great reputation for customer service and overall knowledge of the criminal justice system. They have been in the bail bond business for many years. They are conveniently located close to the Alpharetta jail. The bail professionals serving the Alpharetta and North Fulton County area are Pam Cagle and Danny Cagle. Mr.Cagle's office number is (770) 687-2556 and his cell phone number is (404) 444-6490.
