DUI: Eating right and metabolizing alcohol

Question: I thought I'd write to you because I have had a couple of DUI charges and now I'm really making an effort to stay healthy. I've pretty much changed my life and I go to AA meetings several times a week and I'm eating a lot better than I was before. I'm doing different programs to help my body get over all the alcohol abuse I was doing. It got to the point that I was drinking at lunch and dinner and then at night.

When I spoke with your law firm you had some really interesting ideas to help with alcohol detox. I was wondering if you could write them out for me and I bet a lot of other people have the same type of question.

I got a couple of DUI's in Cherokee County and that actually got me on the path to a healthier lifestyle. That second DUI charge was a wake-up call that I needed, particularly because the breath test was .215, which is high. Now that my legal issues are behind me I want to focus on healing my mind and my body.

Answer: Eating right is certainly a great way to approach health issues related to drinking and alcohol abuse. One interesting and helpful area to focus on can be metabolizing alcohol with the least damage to the body. These tips are also useful for fighting the effects of pollution and pesticides.

Green Tea

Drinking green tea can have proven healthful effects. Because it is high in antioxidants, green tea (and coffee as well) can protect the liver from the impact of alcohol. And it's easy to buy green tea.

Stay Active

Being active has many positive benefits, including eliminating toxins through sweat. By eliminating toxins through athletic activity, you can have a positive impact on your body. The more you sweat the more toxins you'll release.

Eat Probiotic Foods

Eating probiotic foods has been shown to be healthy and to help those who drink better metabolize alcohol (and ward off some of the effects of pollution and pesticides as well). Helpful probiotic foods include things like ginger, seaweed, soft cheeses, yogurt, sourdough bread, sauerkraut and pickled vegetables. Probiotics are "good" bacteria that keep a healthy balance in your gut.
