Sandy Springs: I need to get a drug and alcohol evaluation

Question: Last week I got a DUI charge in Sandy Springs. I was buzzed but I wouldn't say all-out drunk. I was driving home with my girlfriend and I got pulled over because I swerved because we were arguing about something. I swerved, I admit that that. I have a bunch of questions about how a DUI is handled in Sandy Springs and what I need to do about it.

I know I'm going to need to get an evaluation to see if I have an alcohol or drug problem, which I don't. This is my first ever drunk driving charge and I only have one prior arrest and that was for disorderly conduct from a Georgia Tech football game incident when I was in college at the University of Georgia. Back then I got an evaluation.

I took the breath test and I got a .207 at the jail. It's high, I get that, but I really felt OK.

I want to know where I can get one of those evaluations for alcohol and drugs and I want to know if I have to get it done in Sandy Springs because I live in Cumming, in Forsyth County.

P.I. in Cumming, GA

Answer: We tell our clients that getting an alcohol and drug evaluation before court is a good idea. It shows that you are being proactive. And whether the charge stands at a DUI or is reduced to Reckless Driving, you'll have to get the evaluation done anyway.

If you call us we can recommend some counselors who we have used and who have been helpful to our clients in the past. As DUI attorneys we know several who we recommend and several who we don't.

The evaluator can be located anywhere in Georgia, he or she does not have to be in Sandy Springs. As long as the therapist is state certified, you can use their services.
