Question: I have so many medical bills that I need to file for bankruptcy to get some relief from my debts. I didn’t have insurance and I fell off of a ladder doing some home repairs and went to the hospital and I’ve been seeing specialists about my back and neck and hand. These doctors cost a fortune and their bills are huge. I went to a hand doctor in Atlanta and it’s very expensive; my orthopedist in Buckhead isn’t cheap. These bills are huge and I’m getting sued by the hospital now.
I need to get rid of the debt and do something about the lawsuit so I don’t get garnished at work because I could lose my job, I think. We had a guy at work that had a garnishment and I think he got fired; at least that was the rumor.
With these medical and doctor and hospital bills I need some help and advice. I want to retire and move to our cabin in North Georgia in a few years with my wife and I can’t do it with this debt. And my wife is angry because she said I should have gotten insurance but I didn’t think it was necessary because I never get hurt, until this accident at least.
I need to know if I can eliminate these doctors, hospital and specialist bills in a bankruptcy, even though I didn’t have health insurance, which I should have gotten. I need to know it fast so I can stop the garnishment and not get fired.

Medical bills can be astronomical and unexpected and cause many people to file bankruptcy. The bankruptcy law allows you to get rid of all of this type of debt.
The fact that you didn’t have health insurance does not matter. That will not prevent you from being able to file to eliminate that debt. Many people who have health insurance still file bankruptcy because what they are required to pay can still be exorbitant and unaffordable.
And a bankruptcy filing will stop the garnishment and all other debt collection and harassing activities.
